I have been an independent financial adviser for 14 years. Before that I worked for 13 years as an adviser at a High Street bank in Weston super Mare. I can cover all aspects of financial planning including pensions and investments, but because I have developed a specialisation in long-term care planning, I went through the accreditation process with SOLLA in 2013. I now work with several solicitors who are members of Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE), who like SOLLA-accredited advisers have to demonstrate detailed practical knowledge of the issues of most concern to the elderly and the best solutions available to them. My firm operates a fee charging system based on Fee Bands which are shown on our website. A precise fee is always agreed before we start work on a case. These fees are inclusive so that clients know in advance the total cost of advice and implementation.

I advise both solicitors and individuals on long-term care planning. Wherever possible, I try to involve the family as a whole in discussions about care home fee funding, since in most cases a balance has to be struck between guaranteeing the income to cover fees and retaining capital for inheritance. To fund fees while minimising tax liabilities, we will need to include consideration of pension fund assets and other assets that are potentially liable to inheritance tax.

I am also a member of Dementia Friends
